Yalinguth Live at Builders Arms Hotel, Saturday 8th October

Immersive yourself in Aboriginal Fitzroy on this storytelling and musical tour of Gertrude Street.

As part of Melbourne Fringe, our Fitzroy pub, Builders Arms Hotel is thrilled to host the event Yalinguth Live on Saturday 8th October.

Yalinguth invites Melbourne audiences to journey back in time and immerse themselves in the diverse and powerful Aboriginal Rights Movement that originated along iconic Gertrude St, in Fitzroy. In this Yalinguth Live experience, Melbourne audiences will walk with Elders and community, in person and augmented, along the streets of Aboriginal Fitzroy. The event will include performances by Kutcha Edwards, and Yalinguth Elders and storytellers who are part of the Aboriginal Fitzroy story and protest movement.

The performance will begin at the historical Fig Tree in Exhibition Gardens on the corner of Gertrude St and Nicholson St, where the audience will be welcomed to Country and take part in a Smoking Ceremony. The audience will then explore the stories, songs and poems in the Yalinguth app, with live pop up performances along Gertrude Street by storytellers and musicians. The event will conclude at the Builders Arms Hotel, with a live musical and storytelling performance led by special guest Kutcha Edwards.

About the Yalinguth app:
The Yalinguth app is an immersive audio app connecting Melbourne audiences to the important Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history of Gertrude Street, Fitzroy. In the Woi Wurrung language Yalinguth means ‘yesterday’, and echoes the sentiments of many Elders that “we need to go back, before we can go forwards”. The app is available to download now from Google Play and on Apple's App Store.
